Pav and bubbles - a perfect combo

Writer: Carlene WilsonCarlene Wilson

That lovely looking bottle next to that great looking pavlova is a medium dry sparkling wine from quality Georgian producer Teliani Valley.

The two are a perfect combination on a sunny summer Sunday afternoon.

The wine, made from Georgian variety Rkatsiteli had a persistent bubble and a distinctive aroma and flavour of green apples. Its not a bone dry style and that little bit of sugar meant it was a treat with the rich, cream-filled pavlova.

Teliani Valley have been receiving international accolades for their wines, and New Zealand's first and only Master Sommelier has also been insisting people try them.

Georgia is better known for its interesting food friendly reds and whites and sparkling wine production is still very small. But this is a delicious example of what the country is capable of.

Plus you can pick a bottle up for well under $30 - which means it compares very favourably with NZ go-tos like Deutz.

The producer suggests it will also go well with caviar - we might try that next Sunday!
